Growing up I remember one specific Valentine’s Day. I must’ve been around 8 years old. My mom wouldn’t let us into the kitchen so my two sisters and I played upstairs while she was working on something that we knew must be amazing. It was. She made us an all-pink dinner for Valentine’s Day! Pink pancakes, pink eggs, cherry 7-up, I can’t remember what else, but everything was pink. It was amazing and obviously memorable. In honor of my favorite childhood Valentine’s Day, I’m sharing a recipe for Buttermilk Syrup that I have dyed pink. Tomorrow I will be posting Whole Wheat Belgian Waffles, which are perfect to go with Buttermilk Syrup.
- 1 stick butter
- 1 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. buttermilk
- 1/2 t. baking soda
- 1/2 t. vanilla
- Bring butter, sugar, and buttermilk to boil in a very LARGE pan.
- Add baking soda once it is boiling. Boil for 1 minute. It will bubble up quite a bit, so make sure your pan is very large or you'll regret it.
- Remove from heat and add vanilla. It will be frothy, but that will disappear with time. Add a few drops of pink food coloring to make your Valentine's Day more festive.
